This 5-day expedition will take you through Uganda’s spectacular parks, rich in biodiversity, and then lead you across the border to Rwanda, with a focus on Lake Mburo National Park, Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, and a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial Center.

                                                                                       

Detailed Itinerary:

Day 1: Transfer – Lake Mburo National Park

Upon arrival at the airport, you will transfer to Lake Mburo National Park. Our guide will pick you up at the airport or hotel/residence in the morning 8:00 am or another agreed time. The drive will take about 5hrs to go through western Uganda’s major towns of Masaka and Lyantonde. After arriving at Lake Mburo, you will take on an evening game drive or an optional afternoon boat cruise on Lake Mburo to sight wildlife.

Day 2: Walking Safari & Transfer – Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

After breakfast, we will walk through Lake Mburo savannah plains in search of wildlife in a presence of an armed ranger guide. On a good day, expect giraffes’ buffalos, Zebras, topis, and other animals. After this thrilling experience, we continue the journey southwestward to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. The drive from Lake Mburo to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is estimated at 5-6hrs.

Day 3: Ultimate Gorilla Trekking – Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

You will head to the park headquarters immediately after breakfast to get a briefing about the gorilla trek. The presentation will cover the basics of what to expect during the trek and how to approach the animals for their safety. The national park ranger guide will assign all visitors a gorilla family to track, and after that, your thrilling adventure begins. Depending on how far the gorillas are inside the forest, the trek can last from 1 to 7hours or more. Venture into the vegetation until you come across these incredible creatures; it is a truly unique experience. After the trek, you will return to the lodge to relax, dinner, and overnight stay.

Day 4: Golden Monkey & Transfer – Kigali, Rwanda

This trip will take you to trek the golden monkeys, an endemic species of Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in southwestern Uganda. You will enter the jungle and walk through the bamboo vegetation and various indigenous plants like giant lobelia. Your ranger guide will tell you about the national park’s history and the fauna and flora that the park holds during the trip. The golden monkey trek should take about 5 hours and after transfer to Kigali, Rwanda via the Cyanika border post immediately after the experience. The drive from Mgahinga Gorilla National Park to Kigali is estimated to take about 4-5hrs.

Day 5: Kigali Genocide Memorial Center & Transfer to Kigali International Airport

Depending on your departure flight time, you will have your breakfast at leisure before you check out of the hotel for a brief visit at the Kigali Genocide Memorial Center before you transfer to the airport for your check-in and outbound flight.
